In honor of Amma's birthday and what she stands for, Seattle devotees dedicated their efforts for a month (September 3 to September 27, 2004) of hand crafting items for the poor and homeless. The finale of the project was a three-day weekend work party lasting from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, culminating in Amma's Birthday satsang. At the same time, devotees in other parts of Washington, California, and Maine worked to create handmade items in their residences. Forty-five people participated in the Seattle work party weekend by knitting, crocheting and/or cutting polar fleece, bringing food to feed the workers, or dropping off items they had made during the month.
Br. Dayamrita even came from California to work with us on the last day!. On Sunday evening he led the Seattle satsang in a beautiful program to celebrate Amma's birthday. A mountain of the items handmade during the month was set up next to the altar so that all who receive the items can experience the extra blessing of being so close to Amma! The items will be distributed among a wide variety of agencies. One grateful agency worker said, "Having something homemade is very important to people that don't have a residence."
