Annual Fundraising Auction

When we work selflessly for the welfare of the less fortunate and the poor, we are truly meditating on God.

~Amma

Imagine our surprise when we discovered our 9th Annual Mata Amritanandamayi Fundraising Auction generated a record $30,000!  People contributed over $7,500 in cash donations alone. The proceeds went to Amma’s Tsunami Relief Fund, and to help bring Amma to the Seattle area in June - her first stop on the U.S. Tour. We particularly celebrate the generous hearts who made such a large amount possible because we know our U.S. money will go far in Indian currency. And since all relief work is done by volunteers, there is no administrative overhead.

The Auction ran for two weeks on-line, allowing bidders from as far away as France, England and Malaysia to participate. On the day of the Live Auction, volunteers bid on behalf of people who lived too far away to attend in person. In the midst of all this activity, the children performed, a clown circulated through the crowd, there was a cake walk, and periodic drawings for door prizes.

We had much to offer this year that was appealing. There were several items that had been used or blessed by Amma, and a magnificent quilt assembled several years ago by the Olympia satsang (comprised of squares created by satsangs around the country). General items included jewelry, books, photos, artwork, musical instruments, altar cloths and accessories, clothing, and a very interesting array of gift baskets beautifully done up in cellophane and ribbon.

In keeping with Amma’s wish that devotees put their talents to use, satsang members donated services that ranged from cooking classes and massage to dog walking. Many local businesses donated additional services such as weekend getaways, scrumptious restaurant meals, and a Flexcar membership. Supplemental proceeds were generated by sale of delicious Indian food in the café, and small items in the Gift Store.

Still, we’re not finished raising money—a garage sale is planned in April!
